PROFILES

Candidate Profile

The Master’s Degree in Engineering - Computer Engineering is aimed at professionals in Systems Engineering or related with a solid background in basic concepts of the area, general competencies such as leadership, work in interdisciplinary environments and teamwork, who are interested in training in areas of emphasis in computing Engineering.

Graduate Profile

The Master’s degree in Computer Engineering graduates from Universidad Nacional de Colombia are professionals with a solid scientific, technological and socio-humanistic background that allows them to work in interdisciplinary teams and to practice their profession in various fields of action and in different sectors: industrial, financial, governmental, academic and services, with skills as professionals and researchers, always acting with professional ethics and social responsibility.

As professionals, they are able to understand the needs of organizations and offer systemic and innovative solutions using information and communication technologies efficiently and appropriately. They are also able to advise organizations on issues of technology negotiation, strategic planning of information systems, and planning and development of software projects.

As researchers they are able to participate competently in the formulation, management, development and evaluation of research projects, as well as in the respective dissemination of the results obtained. In this way, it can be actively integrated into the dynamics of research and the generation of new knowledge.

OBJECTIVES

The specific training objectives of the Research curriculum are:

  • To generate research in the area of Computer Engineering or in an interdisciplinary way, through structured projects aimed also at generating knowledge or testing those that are part of knowledge.
  • To create new technologies and adapt existing technologies providing solutions to the problems of society and our context.
  • To improve the preparation of university lecturers in the area of Computer Engineering and other related disciplines where advanced training is required.

The specific training objectives of the In-Depth curriculum are:

  • To apply and innovate in the area of Computer Engineering or in an interdisciplinary way by developing new technologies or adapting existing technologies to provide solutions to the problems of society and the national context.
  • To improve the academic training of professionals from non-academic sectors in the area of Computer Engineering and other related areas.

CURRICULUM STRUCTURE

IN-DEPTH CURRICULUM

In-Depth curriculum: Also known as Professional Master, the main objective for students is to acquire skills and knowledge specific to the profession, which can be applied in the resolution of concrete problems, the study of cases, or the analysis of particular situations of a disciplinary or interdisciplinary nature that should not necessarily lead to a process of generating new knowledge.

In this way, courses and academic activities are taken in this mode that allow the construction and preparation of a Final Work, in which methods, scientific and technological developments that already are applied in the resolution of a specific problem. The Final Work lasts for one semester, equivalent to 10 credits, or 480 working hours.

For this modality, in accordance with Article 3 of Agreement 040 of 2017, the Postgraduate Curriculum Advisory Committee has defined as the final working modality only the Final Work Project.

RESEARCH CURRICULUM

Research modality: The main objective of training is for students to acquire the skills and knowledge that allow them to participate in knowledge generation processes or technological processes, which can be applied in problem solving.

In this way, courses and academic activities are taught that allow students to develop a Master’s thesis (written dissertation), which lasts for 2 semesters, which is equivalent to 22 credits, that is, 1056 working hours. Generally, the theme for a master’s thesis could be deepened in the doctorate program.
