The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of Universidad Nacional Colombia, Bogotá Headquarters, presents the Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

The curriculum is supported mainly by teachers from the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering. In addition, other teachers from the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine, among others, participate during the process.

The graduate of the Master in Mechanical Engineering will be able to:

  • To face methodologically the solution of engineering problems specific to their field of study.
  • To lead industrial research and development projects.
  • To manage properly the necessary theoretical foundations in the solution of problems that arise in their professional performance.
  • To enhance production processes, innovate and develop new technologies in line with the principles of sustainable development.

OBJECTIVES

The specific learning outcomes of the curriculum are:

  • To enrich knowledge in the areas of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, applicable to current needs, making presence at national and international level through research activities and application of knowledge.
  • To promote interaction among Universidad Nacional de Colombia, different academic institutions and the public and private sectors, for the development of studies and research to solve problems and generate relevant knowledge.
  • To generate a positive impact in the areas of mechanical engineering and mechatronics through the training of professionals with the capacity to carry out research according to the needs of the country at a doctoral level.
  • To promote the consolidation in the country of a scientific community in the areas of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics through the formation of specific competencies for the proper performance of research tasks.
  • To educate professionals with specific competencies in their fields of action that contribute to process improvement, automation and control, productivity increase and innovation in the industrial sector, through the application of knowledge in the areas of mechanical engineering and mechatronics.

Clarification on the Examination:

Dear Applicant,

In order to prepare for the entrance exam to the Mechanical Engineering Master's degree in 2021-1, we recommend studying the following subjects: (1) Design, (2) Manufacturing Processes, (3) Heat Transfer, (4) Thermodynamics, (5) Materials and (6) Translation of a scientific text or article in English related to one of the programme's lines of research. The examination will include at least two (2) of these topics and may be open-ended and/or multiple choice. For this purpose, it is recommended to review the following bibliography:

The information provided by the persons you indicate is confidential and will be known only to the program directives during the admission evaluation process.

b) ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION

  • Document 1 - Letter of motivation from the applicant. One-page document where the applicant:
    • Explains his/her professional and personal reasons for pursuing graduate studies at the master's level.
    • It informs about their capabilities, achievements and merits, both academic and professional.
    • It comments on their work or research experience in the possible area of work.
    • It clarifies what your potential sources of funding will be.
    • It informs about your time availability for your postgraduate studies.

NOTE: Those people who enter by early admission or automatic admission (National University of Colombia) must apply for the sending of documents in order to register their resume in the program.

SUBMISSION OF DOCUMENTATION

The reception of documents will be carried out by filling out a web application, in which the supports and documents mentioned in the previous section will be loaded. Each applicant will receive an email from the Academic Vice-Deanship of the Faculty with the corresponding web and instructional link.

The Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Colombia, is not responsible in case the applicant cannot enter his data and documents satisfactorily through the web application, due to the demand of simultaneous users exceeding the capacity of the system. it is recommended to advance the process before the closing date

PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THE FOLLOWING RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Advance the document loading process prior to the closing date.
  • Verify that you have all required documents, each in PDF format (only) and that it does not exceed the size of 10MB.
  • Allow sufficient time to load the documents. Loading of documents can be done in parts, closing each time you finish loading each part of the requested documentation.
  • The documents related to a (*) are optional, the others are mandatory. However, these supports give points within the qualification of the resume, it is recommended to attach them in case of having them.
  • To make changes to documents you have previously loaded, you must load the new document and save the changes. The new document will replace the previously loaded one.
  • The application using a set of choices indicates the number of records loaded in each section and points in red to the section in which there are no loaded supports.
  • Previously contact the people you will relate to as references, and make sure that you enter the recommendations within the set deadline.

CV Assessment criteria

The following items in the CV assessment will be taken into account:

  • Affinity of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
  • Professional experience (including experience as professor).
  • Experience as a Professor
  • Experience in research.
  • Academic performance in previous formal studies
  • Academic distinctions.
  • Intellectual production.

Exams Assessment Criteria

The test consists of a series of questions of reading comprehension and critical analysis of texts in the area of mechanical engineering and mechatronics. The evaluation will be carried out considering the number of successful responses. The minimum approval rating is 2.0/5.0.

Interview Assessment Criteria

The final mark of the interview shall consider the following aspects:

  • Commitment to the program and reasons to advance postgraduate studies in master’s degree.
  • Availability of time to attend to the different academic program commitments.
  • Communication skills (Argumentation).
  • General knowledge of the work lines of the program.

Minimum admission mark

The minimum admission mark after weighting all the components of the entrance examination shall be 3.0 out of 5.0.
